Halloweener Derby Day at Seaside is an annual FUNdraising event. The day begins with an all-dachshund race, multiple heats (pardon the pun…) until the championship round to crown this year’s fastest dachshund.

After the Dachshund derby is the pet costume contest. For the last three years, dogs from all over the Southeast have strutted their stuff on the Seaside Amphitheater Stage.

Proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Kind Heart Kennel. The Kind Heart Kennel, opening this fall, is an on-site kennel at Shelter House, the domestic violence and sexual violence center serving Walton and Okaloosa counties. Studies show that almost half of women in abusive relationships stay because they have no place to go with their pets, and 68% of battered women report violence toward their pets. With the addition of the Kind Heart Kennel, Shelter House is removing that barrier and ensuring no woman in our community has to choose between her own safety and the safety of a beloved pet.
